Michael Praed Artist
Michael Praed - detail from Morning Harbour

Michael Praed’s work ranges from large canvases of landscape and sea to smaller paintings depicting familiar, friendly scenes of Cornishmen at work; from long, lonely beaches on the Isles of Scilly to the bustle of the Newlyn fish market; but always illustrating the observational and technical skills of the artists to marvelous effect.

Michael understands the land, the way it is made and its importance to the people of Cornwall. As a student he worked on a beautifully illustrated project on mining history which led him to spend many days at Geevor Mine, underground and amid the surface plant. There began an awareness of the importance of Cornish rocks to the mining industry and as the building materials for the engine houses and harbour walls which figure so frequently in his pictures.
